Following Volunteer Week, we’re taking a moment to recognise some of the wonderful people who give their time, energy and expertise to support St Heliers Village.
Stacey from Four Square St Heliers is part of the St Heliers Village Association committee and volunteers her time to help make the village a more vibrant, welcoming and connected place for locals, visitors and businesses alike.
With a strong background in retail, customer engagement and events, Stacey brings a genuine passion for people and community to everything she does. We asked her a few questions about volunteering, community, and what makes St Heliers so special.
What inspired you to volunteer for the committee?
I love this little village, and I really want to see it thriving, busy at all times of the year and to encourage locals and visitors to stick around and shop locally. I joined the committee so I can leverage my skills in retail, customer engagement and events to help make this happen.
What does “community” mean to you?
Our mission statement here at 4SQ St Heliers is ‘People first. Always.’ At the heart of everything we do is people - our customers, our team, our suppliers, and our St Heliers community. Whether it’s a friendly chat at the checkout, working closely with our suppliers, or creating a supportive workplace for our staff, we’re here to make everyday connections count. By putting people first, always, we create a supermarket that’s more than just a place to shop. It’s a place that feels like home. And that to me is the meaning of community.
What excites you most about the future of St Heliers?
I think St Heliers has become such an appealing place to live, stay and play as it has a safe, all-inclusive vibe. There are long-standing businesses and many new ones too, with a wide demographic now residing here. St Heliers feels busier than ever with events, entertainment and beautification happening, and the feeling from locals in the village is great!
If you could describe the local community in one sentence, what would you say
Friendly, supportive and loyal.
What do you enjoy most about collaborating with other local businesses?
I love connecting with the local businesses to collaborate, complement each other, and share ideas and skillsets. I particularly love working together to bring village events to life! Together, we help make this village welcoming, friendly and fun for locals and visitors to enjoy.
A big thank you to Stacey, and the entire SHVA committee for the time, care and enthusiasm they give to St Heliers Village. Volunteers like Stacey play an important role in helping our village thrive, not only as a place to shop and do business, but also as a place where people feel connected, welcome, and proud to belong.
