The Ōrākei Local Board Business Awards have given us a wonderful chance to pause and shine a light on the people, teams, and stories behind some of our favourite St Heliers businesses.
These awards are a lovely reminder of the heart behind the places we know and love. Behind every meal, every welcome, and every busy service is a team working hard to create something memorable for the people who walk through their doors.
This week, we’re sharing a glimpse into Chim Chim Thai Kitchen, through the words of Reo, their Operations Manager and a familiar face to many in the village.
What inspires you most about being in this community?
A sense of connection. St Heliers has this beautiful mix of locals who genuinely care. People support you, remember you, and celebrate your growth. It doesn’t feel transactional.
What is your best advice for someone starting their own business?
You don’t build the entire bridge before stepping onto it. You lay one plank, then the next, while you move forward.
What do you wish more people knew about your business?
I wish people understood how intentional we are. Every detail from recipes to service is designed with the guest experience at the centre.
Chim Chim Thai Kitchen brings something special to the village: bold flavours, a beautiful space, and a team that knows how to make people feel looked after. As you move through the village, we hope these stories encourage you to keep supporting the people and businesses who help make St Heliers feel like home.
