Ōrākei Local Board Business Awards 2026 Nominee - The Balance Project

Ōrākei Local Board Business Awards 2026 Nominee - The Balance Project

Following on from our recent feature on Verge and Saint Beauty, we’re continuing to celebrate the St Heliers businesses recognised in the Ōrākei Local Board Business Awards.

These awards are a lovely reminder of just how much talent, care, and dedication sits within our village. Behind every shopfront, studio, workspace, and service is a team of people working hard, backing the community, and helping make St Heliers what it is.

This week, we’re sharing a glimpse into The Balance Project, a local workspace built around connection, calm, and community, through the words of Emma and Juliet.

What has been your proudest moment in business so far?
Definitely when the space is fully humming - seeing members working, connecting, and genuinely enjoying the environment we have built. There is no better feeling than hearing positive feedback directly from our community, especially when our members refer their own colleagues and friends to join us. Knowing they trust us enough to bring people into the fold is a great validation [and a huge source of pride] that we have created something people value and want to share. - Emma

Being recognised as a Category Winner in the last Orakei Business Awards was a pretty proud moment too! - Juliet

What does a typical day look like for you in the village?
Our day is a dynamic mix of welcoming our members and the essential behind-the-scenes work - problem-solving, planning, and keeping on top of emails.
What we love most is the ability to step outside for a quick reset. Whether it is a short walk through the village or along the waterfront. It is the perfect way to clear your head (which ensures I stay energised and focused throughout the day). - Emma

How would you describe your space to someone who has never visited before?
It is a calm, beautifully designed workspace right by the beach that strikes a unique balance. It is professional enough for important meetings but relaxed enough to feel like a coastal retreat. You get the quiet environment you need to focus, but you also get that immediate sense of belonging. It is about more than just a desk; it is a sanctuary where you can actually enjoy being productive while feeling part of a genuine community. - Emma

The Balance Project is a great example of what makes St Heliers special: local people creating something thoughtful, useful, and genuinely connected to the way our community lives and works.

As you move through the village, we hope these stories encourage you to keep supporting the people and businesses who help make St Heliers feel like home.
