Collection: Karen Sewell
Karen Sewell is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, working across sculpture, installation, photography, painting, sound, scent, and light. Her practice engages with states of perception and presence, creating work that evokes the quiet mystery of human connection with the unseen.
She holds a Master of Fine Arts (Hons) from Whitecliffe College (2016) and has exhibited widely in New Zealand and internationally. Career highlights include Luminary I Luminare at Palazzo Bembo, Venice (a parallel exhibition of the Venice Biennale), and recognition as a 2024 Molly Morpeth Canaday finalist and award winner, as well as recipient of the Premier Award in the Waitakere Trust Art Award.
Sewell’s work often inhabits both traditional and unconventional spaces, offering immersive experiences that invite contemplation at the threshold between the material world and the intangible.
