Merchants' on Princes Street
Something familiar and yet re - seen - creating a sense of calm, peace and harmony
Architecture: Nature
Strength: Fragility
Permanent: Ephemeral
In my creative process, I find harmony in the clash of opposing elements. I blend intricate draughtsmanship with expressive brushwork, creating a visual ebb and flow where layers and shadows interplay, padding only to resurface. The resulting effect is akin to glimpsing a familiar yet refreshingly reimagined memory – an image that strikes a chord of recognition.
Utilizing photography, acrylics, and pencil, I delve into the contrasts abundant in Auckland’s CBD, my home base. While my artistic goal revolves around capturing the serene coexistence between urban architecture and nature’s organic beauty, my art bears a deeper complexity. It invites the viewer to contribute their perspective, stirring a subtle unease and a gentle tension as if the very windows within the artwork gaze back, inviting introspection.
My art speaks to the intrinsic relationship between Architecture and Nature, unveiling the transitory nature of what seems permanent and revealing the delicate equilibrium between strength and fragility. I have paintings held in private collections across New Zealand, Australia, and the UK, and work represented in the collection of the Parliament Building, Wellington.
